Gate 0: a one-night departure-lounge club
A club night disguised as an airport lounge, where the dance floor is the departure gate.
A hypothetical idea, not a real campaign. Air New Zealand isn't involved. It shows how a mechanic from this week's reporting could work for a well-known brand.
Inspired by: -196's konbini club night (Campaign Brief)
01The idea
Gate 0 turns a club into a departure lounge for one night. Tickets are free but limited, and arrive as boarding passes. Inside, the bar is a check-in desk, the DJ plays an 'in-flight set' and the visuals look like a departures board. One guest wins real flights. Like a pop-up that looks like a convenience store, the point is that the room is so photographable that the people inside do the advertising.
02How it works
- 1Book a venue and a DJ or collective with a real following, so it feels like a night out, not a brand event.
- 2Release a small number of free tickets as boarding passes through a registration ballot, announced 48 hours ahead.
- 3Design the room around airport details people instantly recognise: check-in, gate signs, announcements.
- 4Brief a handful of creators to film the queue, the set and the flight giveaway.
- 5Post a recap reel within 24 hours, with a travel offer for people who missed out.
Channels: Live event, Creators, TikTok, Instagram, PR, Email
Audience: 18 to 30 year olds in Auckland's music and nightlife scene who travel, or want to
Targets are set from the brand's own baseline data, so there are no made-up numbers here. Treat it as a starting point for your own plan.
